Florida teacher requirements

Leona’s preference is to hire educators who are certified for the grades and subjects to be taught, having completed a state-approved preparation program and having passed all portions of the Florida Teacher Certificate Examination. Alternatively, individuals who have not passed all portions of the test, or who are still completing a program, may qualify for a Temporary Certificate, good for three years while completing a teacher preparation program. Teachers who are licensed/certified in other states may be approved for initial certification upon review by Florida Department of Education.
